*I have some parents who keep telling me how I should teach. How can I work as a team with families but also stand behind my collaborative learning curriculum?
*The best advice I can give you in handling this challenging situation is the same advice I would gave about managing provocative behaviour in children:Do not allow others to engage you in a power struggle.Instead try to figure out exactly what is bothering them-which you can do with their help, believe it or not! Ask them with a sincere smile , to explain their concerns about your teaching methods.Listen carefully and respectfully, without suggesting that you will alter your practices as a result of what they say. Although there is no way for me to predict how these parents will respond, you may learn something about their real anxieties and thus allay them their fears. For example, these parents might think their child lacks the self-motivation to succeed in the envirounment,or maybe they have their own unpleasant memories about a teacher with a similar approach. They may even be concerned about other children in the classroom and how their child gets along with them. There are endless possibllities, but if you show interest, compassion ,and above all respect for the parents and their children they will perhaps feel less threatened and be more cooperative. If not you will know you did your best to listen and address their concerns.

You're talkig pleasantly and smoothly, but have you ever thought about people? most people don't like to be preached! I mean they don't like the others to preach them. you're writing in the way that if anybody read it they feel they're stupid! and you know everything but they don't.
ReplyDeleteyou know what I mean? it's good to give advice to the others but you have to watch your talking.
of course you're writing good, I appreciate your sensitivity and creativity, I think you're carey person, am I right?
If you omit some parts of the paperwork above, that would be much more interesting, useful and of course effective!
Thank you anyway and Good Luck!
